This absolutely gorgeous 6-year-old, AQHA registered grullo gelding stands a stout 15 hands and has the kind of striking appearance that immediately catches your attention. With his beautiful grullo coloring, bold zebra-striped legs, athletic build, and handsome expression, G is the definition of eye-catching. One of the things that makes Genuine Gem so incredibly special is the amount of genuine trail experience he has accumulated at such a young age.
During his time with us, G has been one of the horses we have trusted to accompany us on some of our most memorable riding adventures. He has traveled twice to Montana, gaining invaluable experience in the mountains and wilderness that few horses ever have the opportunity to explore.
On his first Montana adventure, G experienced riding and camping in Yellowstone National Park, where he spent time navigating unfamiliar country, encountering wildlife, and experiencing the sights and sounds of the great outdoors. Traveling with horses, camping away from home, and riding through expansive wilderness areas require a horse that can adapt to changing surroundings and remain dependable in new situations. G handled these experiences beautifully.
This fall, we once again loaded G up for Montana, this time to explore the spectacular scenery of Glacier National Park. We rode both the east and west sides of the park, putting many more backcountry miles under his belt while exploring some of the most magnificent mountain scenery in the country.
From unfamiliar trails and changing terrain to wildlife and the many unexpected situations that come with riding in true wilderness country, G took the experience in stride and once again reminded us why we enjoy taking him along on these adventures.

Beyond his extraordinary trips out west, G has accumulated countless hours of riding in a variety of environments and has proven himself to be a wonderful, dependable trail horse.
He confidently rides out alone and does not need the security of another horse to remain comfortable. When riding in a group, he is equally happy leading the way, traveling quietly in the middle, or bringing up the rear. He will also willingly separate from the group and continue on his own without becoming unsettled.
G has a wonderful, ground-covering walk that makes him especially enjoyable for riders who appreciate a horse that travels along willingly rather than needing constant encouragement. He is not a sluggish horse that has to be pushed every step of the way. Genuine Gem is exceptionally well broke and rides beautifully in both English and Western tack. He has a wonderful foundation, a responsive handle, and a willing attitude that make him a pleasure to work with in the arena.
One of his standout qualities is how nicely he rides with contact. G willingly softens into the bridle, accepts a consistent feel, and responds beautifully to his rider's cues. He is attentive to leg pressure, moves willingly off your aids, and offers the kind of responsiveness that makes riding feel smooth and connected.
He bends and yields willingly, stays soft through his body, and has a natural willingness to work that makes him especially enjoyable for riders who appreciate a more educated horse.
We feel G would make a fabulous Western Dressage horse. His softness, responsiveness, willingness to accept contact, and ability to move forward when asked provide an excellent foundation for someone interested in developing him further in that discipline.
He is not a horse that needs to be constantly pushed along to get a response. Ask him to move out, and he is right there for you. Ask him to soften, bend, or yield, and he willingly responds to your cues.
Under English tack, G rides quietly in a simple snaffle and offers a lovely, responsive feel. Switch him over to Western, and he is equally comfortable and enjoyable.
He picks up his leads, stops willingly, backs easily, and offers a nice turnaround. He side-passes, works quietly around obstacles, and has been exposed to ropes being swung and objects being dragged behind him.

G loads and hauls exceptionally well and settles into new surroundings with a sensible attitude. Having traveled across the country with us on multiple occasions, he is accustomed to leaving home, arriving in unfamiliar places, and adapting to different environments.
